This paper presents a multi-objective stochastic optimization
model for finding the optimal hourly hydro scheduling
and the reservoir operation of a set of cascaded plants belonging
to the same hydro basin. Given the predominant role of hydro
plants in the provision of ancillary services, the goal of the
presented model is to obtain the operation that simultaneously
maximizes the expected profit in both the day-ahead electricity
market and the secondary regulation reserve market. Hydro
systems are subject to many inter-temporal links, and it is
necessary to take into account the guidelines and limits set by
the water authorities (irrigation, ecological water flows, etc.).
Therefore, in order to ensure a feasible solution, the objective
function to be maximized is the sum of the electricity market
profits minus the sum of a number of penalty terms that account
for the deviations with respect the limits. The paper presents a
study case for a realistic hydro system used to test the proposed
formulation.
