The Analysis and Design research unit is an interdisciplinary research group which is highly experienced in the use of numerical techniques in the resolution of engineering problems and is focused on the design of mechanical, thermal and hydraulic systems.
We develop mathematical models which make possible the simulation of problems in almost all areas of engineering. Thus our activities include problems of structural mechanics and of heat transmission and fluid mechanics, and we model the electromagnetic behaviour of electrical machines or the electrostatic behaviour of electrical components, etc. All such research is carried out with linear or non-linear calculations, both static and dynamic.
Our research team has access not only to commercial simulation tools but also to implementation codes for the development of specific models and of experimental equipment: thermography, data acquisition systems, etc. Depending on the requirements of the particular research project, we are able to make use of the ETST-ICAI laboratories: the Industrial Trials lab, the Fluids and Heat lab, the Dimensional Metrology lab and the Flexible Manufacturing lab. This enables us to develop prototypes and test them.
Additionally, we offer consulting services and technical assistance in the areas mentioned above.
